Name: Eden Peters
Date: Thursday March 2, 2017
Placement: Thornhill Public School
Purpose
Providing 1:1 help to Child E with her math work.
Objectives
To provide support to Child E while she completes her assigned math work
To ensure Child E’s understanding of Time – the unit that the class is learning
Materials:
Time worksheet
Plastic clock
Description
Child E had some outstanding homework that needed to be completed, however she seemed to have a hard time understanding the difference between O’CLOCK and HALF PAST when drawing the hands on the analog clock. In order to ensure her understanding of this concept, I worked 1:1 with her. Using the plastic clock, I was able to manipulate the time and explain the difference between O’CLOCK and HALF PAST. Once I had explained the two terms, I had Child E manipulate the hands on the clock to show me 12:00, 12:30, 1:00 and 1:30 (we continued until she seemed to fully grasp the concept). When we were finished with the plastic clock, we worked together (more Child E doing the work and me observing) to complete her homework.
Reflection:
Looking back on this activity, I should have finished it with Child E explaining the idea of time to me. By doing this, I would be able to see that she understands the concept of time so much that she can explain it to someone else. Overall, I feel that by working 1:1 with Child E was very beneficial for her as she needed further direction and instruction on the topic.
