Name: Eden Peters
Date: Thursday March 9, 2017
Placement: Thornhill Public School
Purpose
To participate in the drama activity with the students.
Task
Hopefully I will have the opportunity to plan a drama lesson for the students. By engaging in this activity, I will have further knowledge on how to plan and execute a successful drama lesson.
Objectives
To observe the implementation of a drama activity
To discover what the children enjoy throughout the lesson
To learn how to plan a successful drama activity for the class.
Description
Usually when the students have drama, the classroom teacher has a ‘prep’ period and I will stay with her to complete some unfinished marking or photocopying. Today I decided to go to drama with the children to see what they are doing and hopefully gain some experience in the planning/implementing process of drama. While we were there, the children played a game called ‘I like my neighbour who...’. in this game, one child would go into the middle of the circle and say: I like my neighbour who likes... (and would say something that they like – such as chocolate, reading, dancing, or something along those lines). Once the sentence is said, anyone who enjoys the same thing would stand up and switch chairs with someone else who stood up. The last person standing would then create the next sentence.
I found this game to be really fun and it seemed that the children enjoyed it. They decided that each child should have the opportunity to create the sentence 2 times (which ended up consuming all of the allotted time).
Reflection
I feel that the students had a lot of fun in drama and it was a great opportunity for them to release their ‘sillies’ while practicing their drama skills. I hope to be able to plan a fun activity for the students that allows them to get creative and have fun while learning.
