Name: Eden Peters
Date: Friday January 20, 2017
Placement: Thornhill Public School
Purpose
The classroom teacher asked if I would be able to create signs around the classroom that would explain the units that the students will be learning. These posters include the title of the unit, the learning goals and their success criterion.
Task: My task was to create posters to put around the classroom
Objectives
To create signs that would capture the student’s attention
To create signs that include all essential information regarding the units that the children would be learning
To improve my primary printing on chart paper
Describe
In order to create these signs, I gathered the following materials:
Chart paper
Markers
With different coloured markers, I created the signs based on pieces of paper that the teacher gave me.
An example of one of the units is:
Grade 2 – Matter and Energy
Big Idea: Cause and Effect
Question: Why does action cause a reaction?
Learning Goal: We are learning about the three states of matter
Success Criteria (We are successful when we can):
Identify the three states of matter (solid, liquid, gas)
Explain how a liquid absorbs and repels
Describe the different properties and characteristics of matter
Explain how different solids and liquids are used to make a new substance
Identify that there are safe and dangerous substances
Reflection
Throughout completing this task, I feel that I definitely achieved my three objectives. I feel that I created posters that would capture the childrens attention and included all of the necessary information. Moreover, as I was writing, I noticed my print getting neater (not to say I had messy printing at the beginning, I just feel that over the process it got clearer). While this task was something that needed to be completed, I do not feel it was the only thing that I could have done today. However, it taught me that there are many time consuming tasks that teachers must complete behind the scenes. A lot more effort and planning goes in to teaching than I originally thought. If I were to create these signs again, I would ensure that my finger spacing and line spacing is equal throughout the page to ensure consistency and make it easier for the children to read.
