Name: Eden Peters
Date: Friday February 3, 2017
Placement: Thornhill Public School
Purpose
Today was a PA day and all of the teachers were in a meeting. Rather than sitting in on the meeting, the classroom teacher asked me if I would type up her lesson plans in an organized fashion so that she would be able to file them and store them neatly in one place (electronically).
Task: Typing lesson plans
Objectives:
To turn the lesson plans into organized documents on the computer
To ensure all lessons for the units ‘Making Predictions’, ‘Personal Narratives’, and ‘Understanding Matter’ were complete and easily readable in the scenario where a supply teacher or other faculty member would need to read it
To understand where the class is headed next in each subject in order to plan more lessons and activities
Materials – computer, rough lesson plans
Reflection
I feel that this was a good task for me to complete. Firstly, I am a quicker at typing than the classroom teacher so I was able to save her time that she could use to finish her report cards. While I was typing up the lessons, I was able to understand the format that the teacher uses when planning and executing lessons with her students. This will help me accommodate my lessons to what the children are used to. I feel that having this understanding will help me plan for the children and ensure that they are engaged while receiving a full educational lesson. While this task did take some time and was not the most exciting, I do feel that I gained insight on how to approach, plan, and interact with the children in this class.
