Purpose
Today I worked 1:1 with Student D on completing his math work (focused on 2D shapes). I noticed that he needed extra help with this unit so I assisted him on completing his worksheet.
Task: Assisting a student in completing his worksheet on 2D shapes
Objectives
To ensure Child D’s success in labeling 2 Dimensional Shapes
To further scaffold Child D to be able to compete his worksheets independently
To gain an understanding of Child D’s knowledge in order to plan an independent learning experience for him
The materials needed to complete this task were: pencil, eraser, worksheet, crayons or pencil crayons
Description (step by step):
Once the classroom teacher was finished giving the lesson on 2D shapes, and she explained what was to be done on the worksheet, I went with Child D to the back table and we began working on the assignment
Child D had to organize the shapes according to the number of sides and corners
Then, he had to draw regular and irregular polygons (which included triangles, hexagons, pentagons, and octagons)
Reflection
During this activity, Child D did not require much assistance completing the task, rather he needed more help staying focused. I felt that I was redirecting his attention more than explaining the task at hand. I noticed that Child D worked better while sitting at the back table compared to when he sits at his desk and gets distracted by the other students. When completing independent tasks, I feel that it is best if Child D is sitting where there are little to no distractions as his attention is easily shifted.
